“Strengtheningseed cooperative societies, promoting quality production, and ensuring timely availability of certified seeds to farmers are crucial for developing sustainable agricultural and food systems in Telangana,” experts said on Thursday.

The observations were made at an awareness programme on “Strengthening Seed Supply System through Seed Cooperative Societies for Sustainable Agri-Food Systems in Telangana”, organised jointly by Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU), the District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) and Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS), with financial support from NABARD, at the DCCB office here.

PJTAU Seed Department Director Dr Nagesh Kumar explained the project implementation procedures, guidelines, objectives, and activities. He said PACS should play a key role in seed production and supply, enabling farmers to access quality seeds while improving crop productivity and promoting sustainable agricultural development. DCCB Chief Executive Officer N Venkata Aditya underlined the importance of strengthening cooperative societies and establishing an efficient and sustainable seed supply mechanism for farmers.
