BC Samaj State General Secretary Modal Srinivas Sagar described Chakali Ilamma as a brave woman who fought in the Telangana Armed Struggle for land and livelihood and against the exploitative vetti system.

On her death anniversary, Sagar, along with leaders of caste associations, garlanded Chakali Ilamma’s statue at Green Belt Colony in Padmavathi Colony and paid floral tributes on Thursday. He said Ilamma courageously stood against the Razakars, oppressive landlords and the Vishnoor Deshmukh Ramachandra Reddy.

He recalled that when the Vishnoor attempted to occupy the land leased by Ilamma in the Palakurthi region, she resisted and protected her crop with the support of Communist fighters and Andhra Mahasabha activists.

Leaders of caste associations added Ilamma displayed exceptional courage by directly challenging the landlord and his men. They recalled that following the success of her land struggle, Communist activists distributed the grain seized from the landlord’s house among the people and distributed about 90 acres of the landlord’s land.

BC JAC leaders Sarangi Lakshmikanth, Kummari Sangham district president Bugganna, BC Samajh town president Narsimha and others participated in the programme.
