TheCPI Wanaparthy constituency secretary Ramesh called for a struggle to resolve public issues, drawing inspiration from Chakali Ilamma, a warrior of the Telangana Armed Peasant Struggle. Her 41st death anniversary was observed with solemnity at the party office here on Thursday. Floral tributes were paid to her portrait.

Ramesh noted Ilamma took up arms to fight for land, livelihood, and liberation from bonded labour on behalf of the people who were suffering under the feudal ‘doras’. With the party’s support, she rebelled against feudal lord Ramachandra Reddy and protected her crops and lands.

Ramesh highlighted how landlords were driven out of villages and ten lakh acres were redistributed. He urged everyone to carry forward Ilamma’s legacy, noting that she never backed down despite facing immense hardships and destruction of her family’s livelihood. Farmers who are struggling due to a lack of electricity and water need people’s support to resolve issues related to ration cards and land disputes.

District executive committee member Kalavatamma, along with members Ravinder, Chinna Kurumanna, Sekhar, Jayamma, Jyoti, Venkatamma, and Chandu participated in the protest.
