Amaravati:The regional meteorological centre here on Thursday forecast heavy rain in parts of Andhra Pradesh over the next three days under the influence of a low-pressure area.

For Thursday, the department forecast heavy rain at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, along with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema.

"Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh, a low-pressure area has formed over the North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood...today," a press release from the centre in Amaravati said.

It forecast heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on Friday, and heavy rain at isolated places over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

It also forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema on Friday.

Similar weather conditions were forecast for Saturday.

The department said strong surface winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph were likely to prevail over parts of the state until September 14.
