Twoyoung men drowned in the Veligonda Project feeder canal on September 5 after reportedly visiting the site to witness the water flow, turning celebrations over the project’s inauguration into tragedy. The deceased were identified as Raj Kumar (22) and Vinay Kumar (23), residents of KatakanuPalli village in Dornalamandal.

Both youths belonged to Dalit families. Raj Kumar’s marriage had been fixed for September 6, and his family was making preparations when the tragedy occurred.

CPI National Leader Dr. K. Narayana expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and demanded Rs50 lakh compensation for each bereaved family.
