#Title Village girls who turned adversity into gold Three Siddipet journalism students bring laurels to Telangana with Osmania University medals

Overcominghardships, tragedies and social barriers, three young women from rural backgrounds have brought laurels to Telangana by winning gold medals in Journalism and Mass Communication at Osmania University.

Katla Kavya, Gollapalli Chamanthi and Kadasi Chiruhasini, all from the Department of Journalism at Osmania University Post Graduate College, Siddipet, have emerged as inspiring examples of determination and perseverance for students, particularly girls from rural areas.

Katla Kavya, who hails from Anantaram village in Jagtial district, bagged the late Major SM Hussain and Amina Begum gold medal for securing the highest aggregate marks in the first division in her first attempt in the MA Journalism and Mass Communication examinations for the academic year 2024-25.

Kavya is the third student from the Siddipet Journalism Department to win a gold medal since the course was introduced in 2013. She studied in government institutions. She is currently working as an HR professional with a private financial company in Karimnagar.

Her father, Katla Raju, is a two-wheeler mechanic. “My parents never discriminated between me and my younger brother. Their support and encouragement gave me confidence to overcome every difficulty,” said Kavya.

Another girl, Gollapalli Chamanthi from Komuravelli village in Siddipet district became the department’s first gold medallist in 2017, winning the Yudhvir Memorial Gold Medal for securing the highest marks in Development and Rural Communication. She later gained professional experience with Nava Telangana daily and a YouTube channel for two years.

Kadasi Chiruhasini also won the Yudhvir Memorial gold medal in 2023. She faces personal struggles, including the sudden death of her father, depression, financial difficulties and a leg fracture. She attended classes while working and even wrote examinations on a wheelchair after fracturing her leg.

She discontinued B Tech course following personal tragedy and completed her Journalism degree and postgraduate studies.
