DistrictCollector Ankit on Friday inspected the ongoing construction works of the Government Medical College at Laxmidevipalli mandal and directed officials to expedite the works and complete the project in a planned manner by December.

The Collector inspected various blocks under construction, including the boys’ and girls’ hostels, classrooms and laboratory block, and reviewed the progress with officials. He stressed that the works should be completed without delay while strictly adhering to prescribed quality standards.

Officials informed the Collector that construction of the main college buildings, hostels, hospital, classrooms and laboratory blocks was in progress.

The boys’ and girls’ hostels had reached the final stage and the remaining works were being expedited.

Ankit also examined the college layout and reviewed the proposed internal roads, library, classrooms, laboratories and accommodation facilities.

He instructed officials to ensure that all essential infrastructure required by students, teaching staff and medical personnel was provided.

Officials said the Government Medical College has an intake of 150 MBBS seats every year. The Collector also reviewed the functioning of the nursing college, including teaching, accommodation, classrooms, laboratories, drinking water and other basic amenities, and enquired whether students required any additional facilities.

The Collector said the medical college was a project of high priority for the district and directed officials to set specific timelines for each work and monitor progress continuously.

He instructed them to complete the boys’ and girls’ hostels within a month and finish the remaining construction works by December.

The college is being constructed over around 25 acres. The Collector stressed that quality standards must be strictly maintained and the infrastructure should be developed keeping future requirements in mind.

Officials from the medical, engineering and construction departments, nursing college authorities and representatives of the construction agency participated in the inspection.
