A case has been registered against Congress village unit president Mali Shankar Reddy following allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman after promising to help her obtain an Indiramma house and cement bags for its construction. The incident came to light belatedly.

According to the details, the woman, a resident of Pullayigudem village in Atmakur (M) mandal, had been sanctioned an Indiramma house. The victim alleged that Shankar Reddy assured her that he would arrange cement bags for the construction and provide all necessary assistance, and subsequently sexually assaulted her.

After the woman’s husband came to know about the incident, a panchayat was reportedly held in the village in the presence of elders.

The victims alleged that they were pressured not to approach the police and were instead asked to settle the matter in the presence of village elders.

The complaint further stated that they were offered half an acre of land if they refrained from filing a police case.

When the victims refused to accept the offer, they allegedly faced threats.

Following this, the woman and her husband approached the police. Based on the woman’s complaint, a case was registered and an investigation is underway, SI Lakshminarayana said.
