The82nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Rajiv Gandhi was celebrated grandly at the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district headquarters under the leadership of District Congress President Battu Karunakara. Bhupalpally MLA Gandra Satyanarayana Rao attended as the chief guest and paid floral tributes to Rajiv Gandhi’s portrait. A cake-cutting ceremony was also held.

Speaking on the occasion, Congress leaders recalled Rajiv Gandhi’s contribution to India’s modernization, particularly in computers, telecommunications and technology. They also highlighted his decision to reduce the voting age to 18, encouraging greater youth participation in democracy. As part of the celebrations, forms were distributed and assistance provided to newly eligible 18-year-olds to enroll as voters. Municipal Chairman Burra Komarayya, town Congress president Datla Srinu and several party leaders and workers participated in the programme.
