MarkingIndian Akshay Urja Diwas (Renewable Energy Day) on Thursday, Vijayawada Division of South Coast Railway highlighted its growing renewable energy initiatives, with its installed solar capacity reaching 4,864 kWp across 265 rooftop and standalone installations. Of the total capacity, 2,978 kWp has been installed at railway stations, 1,476 kWp at service buildings and offices, 120 kWp at staff quarters and 290 kWp at 70 level-crossing gates, helping ensure uninterrupted power supply at rural and outage-prone locations.

During 2025-26, the installations generated 44,06,903 units of clean energy, resulting in savings of Rs 4.61 crore and avoiding 3,525.52 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. During April-July 2026, the Division generated 19,90,741 units, saving Rs 1.85.54 crore and avoiding 1,592.59 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. The Division has also switched completely to LED lighting and installed solar water heaters with a combined capacity of 56,700 litres per day at running rooms, rest houses and hospitals. It has commissioned 81 solar-powered street lights and signal installations. Stations including Kadiyam, Dwarapudi, Madhuranagar, Sarpavaram, Uppuluru, Ulavapadu, Kavutaram, Nidamanuru, Moturu and Pedana have adopted green-energy initiatives. Vijayawada Railway Station has received IGBC Platinum certification for sustainable design, while 610 kWp of building-integrated photovoltaic rooftop solar panels have been installed across its platforms.
