Nearly150 students residing at the BC Welfare Hostel in Ternekal village are facing severe hardship due to a acute shortage of basic infrastructure, including adequate rooms, toilets, and a permanent drainage system.

For the past one-and-a-half years, students have been accommodated in a rented building outside the main hostel premises due to spatial constraints.

The temporary premises lack proper soak pits and drainage connections, resulting in untreated wastewater flowing directly onto public roads.

The accumulation of stagnant sewage has generated foul odors and intensified mosquito breeding, raising major health concerns for both hostellers and local residents forced to walk through the waste.

Villagers claimed repeated representations to hostel authorities yielded no results.

They demanded that district officials inspect the site, hold the hostel management and building owner accountable, and prioritize basic civic infrastructure.

When contacted by The Hans India, Hostel Welfare Officer Koteswara Rao acknowledged that 150 students are living in the rented accommodation and stated that higher officials, including the Panchayat Raj department, were alerted multiple times. He attributed the prolonged delay to a lack of budgetary allocations.

Meanwhile, Deputy MPDO P Gopal stated that a development proposal worth Rs 1.45 crore has been submitted for official sanction through Jana Sena leader Venkappa.

He assured that once funds are released, repair and construction work will be executed on a war footing. Residents continue to appeal for urgent government intervention.
