Formerminister and BRS leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Thursday led a 10-km walk along a canal in Jangaon district, demanding immediate release of irrigation water to farmers in Devaruppula and Kodakandla mandals.

The walk began at Dharavat Thanda and concluded at Banjara village, where Errabelli inspected dried paddy fields and interacted with farmers. He later staged a dharna at Singarajupalli, alleging that despite sufficient water in the Devadula reservoir, canals remained dry.

Questioning claims that 57,000 acres had received irrigation water, Errabelli asked the government to explain where the water had gone. During an attempt to arrest him, a scuffle broke out between BRS workers and police, in which Errabelli sustained a head injury. He continued the protest before being taken into custody. Farmer Kunsothu Venkanna broke down, saying his four-acre crop had dried up despite drilling 16 borewells without finding water. Errabelli demanded Rs 30,000 per acre as compensation and vowed to continue the agitation until farmers receive relief and irrigation water.
