Tourismand Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao inspected the the D-8 Canal constructed as part of the Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme here on Thursday. He inspected the water flow and condition of the canals from the main canal near Thoodukurthy through Sakalpally, Yedutla, Gopalpet, Remaddula, Singayapally, Turakapally and Gopulapuram. The Minister enquired with Irrigation department officials about the water being released into canals and distributaries and the status of the ayacut. He also reviewed whether irrigation water was reaching thetail-end lands of the ayacut.

In view of the El Niño effect, Minister Jupally urged farmers and officials to conserve every drop of water and avoid wastage. He directed officials to use the available water judiciously and ensure irrigation facilities reach a larger extent of farmland. He instructed Irrigation officials to continuously monitor water releases, flow levels and the ayacut situation. He stressed the need for strict measures to prevent water wastage and ensure adequate supply to the tail-end areas.
