DistrictCollector Adarsh Surabhi directed that farm pond construction be undertaken extensively across the district, noting that these ponds help harvest rainwater, replenish groundwater, and ensure water availability for agricultural needs.

The Collector, accompanied by Additional Collector (Local Bodies) Khimya Naik, inspected farm pond construction works being carried out under the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Goplapur village, Panagal mandal on Thursday.

He interacted with Pallavi, a farmer who was having a farm pond constructed, and inquired about the details of the work. The farmer informed that she was building a farm pond covering an area of two guntas on her two-acre land. She explained that the farm pond would allow rainwater storage, groundwater replenishment, borewell recharging, and water usage for agricultural purposes.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector instructed officials to identify farmers interested in farm pond construction and take steps to build more of them. He suggested holding meetings with members of women’s groups to create awareness about the benefits of farm ponds. He also directed the Additional Collector to complete the district’s assigned target for farm pond construction within the stipulated timeframe.
