HumanRights Protection Organisation Telangana state secretary and social activist Punem Pradeep Kumar on Thursday demanded immediate action against alleged encroachment of government lands, footpaths, drains and water bodies in Bhadrachalam.

Pradeep Kumar staged a one-day hunger protest at Ambedkar Centre, alleging that government lands were being occupied by influential persons for commercial and real estate activities.

He said footpaths along major roads had been encroached upon, forcing pedestrians to walk on roads, while drainage channels were allegedly occupied and constructions were carried out over them.

He also alleged that a nearly two-acre pond in Shantinagar Colony had recently been filled with soil for real estate activity. Gondwana Welfare Parishad president Sonde Veeraiah and other activists demanded protection of government lands and strict enforcement of agency laws.

They urged the district administration to recover encroached lands and warned of a larger agitation if immediate action was not taken.
