Handloomsand Textiles Commissioner Rekha Rani has called for greater product diversification and market-oriented innovation in the handloom sector to enhance the income of weavers and expand market opportunities.

During her visit to the Angara and Pulugurtha Primary Handloom Cooperative Societies in East Godavari district, the Commissioner reviewed production activities, cooperative performance and marketing practices. She interacted with weavers and urged them to develop new products that match changing consumer preferences and market demand.

Rekha Rani suggested converting traditional handloom sarees into dress materials and introducing innovative designs, colours and patterns to attract a wider customer base. She stressed that quality, contemporary designs and product diversification are essential to improve the competitiveness of handloom products in domestic and international markets. Highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening the handloom sector, Rekha Rani said training programmes are being organised to equip weavers with skills in product diversification, design development and market trends. She said that improved designs and market-driven products would significantly increase the demand for handloom fabrics.

The Commissioner instructed officials to provide better marketing support to ensure fair prices for handloom products. She said that handloom products currently fetch prices ranging from Rs 900 to Rs 4,000 and expressed confidence that higher quality, innovative designs and diversified products would further enhance weavers’ earnings.
