Prakasamdistrict police arrested four persons and recovered gold jewellery worth Rs 18 lakh on Thursday after a daytime burglary at a locked house in Maddipadu mandal.

Ongole DSP R Srinivasa Rao said that the accused broke open the door of the house of the complainant, Meesala Venkata Vamsi Krishna in Maddipadu village around noon on July 23 while the family had gone to Ongole. They stole around 26 sovereigns of gold jewellery from the almirah inside the house.

The police identified the four accused as Gopisetti Sunil (48) of Nellore, Tammisetti Venkateswarlu (25), Tammisetti Anand (19), both of Madala village in Palnadu district, and Malamanti Sai Kumar (33) of NTR district. Sunil and Venkateswarlu had known each other in jail earlier.

After their release, they fell into bad habits and planned the burglary. They hired an Innova car, roamed through Chirala, Bapatla, and Ponnur, and came to Maddipadu to target locked houses.

Special teams led by Ongole Rural CI M Seshagiria Rao and Maddipadu SI G Venkata Surya, under the supervision of Ongole SDPO R Srinivasa Rao, traced the vehicle and arrested the accused at Gundlapalli village. Police recovered 157.5 grams of gold jewellery, Rs 51 000 cash, and the Innova car bearing registration AP 27 TX 7738. Prakasam district SP V Harshavardhan Raju commended the teams for solving the case quickly.
