Followinga complaint from public, corporation officials inspected ‘Biryani Factory’ outlet at Jagjivanram Park on Wednesday night.

Acting on the directions from district Collector and Special Officer Dr S Venkateswar, Health Officer Dr Yuva Anvesh, Veterinary Officer Gunasekhar, Food Safety Officer and sanitary staff inspected the outlet.

Health Officer Dr Yuva Anvesh said that they received a complaint that a young girl suffered food poisoning after eating biryani from Biryani Factory and undergoing treatment. Following this complaint, he said that they inspected the outlet.

During inspection, the officials found several violations, including the outlet was operating without a mandatory municipal trade license, chicken used for preparing biryani was not stored properly, food items lacked required labels and expiry dates, the freezer was not in good condition; rotten vegetables were found in the store room, useless items and rodent droppings were found in the store room, cleaning and cooking areas were unhygienic and there were chances of food getting contaminated since workers were not using personal protective equipment. The officials seized Biryani Factory outlet and sent available biryani and curd samples to laboratory for checking purity and contamination.

Commissioner Sarada Devi instructed all trade owners to obtain a municipal trade license and to maintain proper quality and hygiene standards.

Otherwise, she warned of taking stringent action against those, who run business without required licenses. She also advised consumers not to buy ultra-cheap food items and to check quality before purchase.
