Kumuram Bheem Asifabad:Heavy rains over the past two days have crippled normal life across Telangana’s Asifabad district, cutting off road connectivity to several villages as streams and rivulets overflowed. Rising inflows from Maharashtra have swollen the Godavari River at Tummidihetti, prompting authorities to issue flood warnings for low-lying areas.

Floodwaters flowing over the Pittaguda bridge in Lingapur mandal disrupted access to Khimanayak Thanda, Pulasingh Nayak Thanda, Jamuladara and Gunnur. Police have deployed pickets at vulnerable locations and warned people against venturing near flooded rivers and streams. To manage the rising inflows, officials lifted five spillway gates of the Kumram Bheem project and opened gates at the Vattivagu project to release excess water downstream. Collector Haritha and SP Nitika Pant inspected the affected areas and urged residents to avoid crossing flooded roads and low-level bridges. Educational institutions remained closed as the India Meteorological Department’s Red Alert continued for the district.
