Heavyrainfall across Nirmal district from Tuesday night to Thursday brought much-needed relief to farmers while creating flood-like conditions in several parts of the district. After a prolonged dry spell that left crops wilting and farmers anxious, the widespread showers revived hopes for a better agricultural season.

The heavy rains caused streams, rivulets and low-lying areas to overflow, inundating roads and disrupting normal life. Several roads were submerged, while tribal villages in Pempi and Kadam mandals lost road connectivity as overflowing forest streams cut off access. Officials have been working to divert floodwaters from vulnerable areas and restore connectivity wherever possible. Major irrigation projects, including the Kadam Narayan Reddy Project, Sadarmat Barrage and Gaddanna Vagu Swarna Project, received significant inflows. At the Kadam Project, irrigation officials opened 16 of the 18 gates, releasing around 1.5 lakh cusecs of water into the Godavari River. Two gates of the Sadarmat Barrage were also lifted to regulate floodwaters.

District Collector Bhavesh directed all mandal-level officials to remain on alert and ensure public safety. A 24/7 flood control room has been established at the Collectorate, while Khanapur MLA Vedum Bojju Patel visited the Kadam Project to review the flood situation and ongoing management measures with irrigation officials.
