GatesFoundation India Country Director Archana Vyas visited the construction site of the upcoming Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital at Thullur in the Amaravati capital region on Friday to review the progress of the project. Archana Vyas was accompanied by Ravi Srinivasa Rao, chief operating officer of the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (BIACH&RI). During the visit, Srinivasa Rao and Balasubrahmanyam, chief general manager (projects), briefed her on the status of construction and the key features of the upcoming cancer care facility.

Archana Vyas appreciated the exceptional services rendered by the Basavatarakam Institute through its Hyderabad facility, which has been providing quality treatment to thousands of cancer patients. She also congratulated the institution’s chairman, Nandamuri Balakrishna, for his leadership and commitment to strengthening cancer care services. During the interaction, representatives of the hospital requested the Gates Foundation to support the Amaravati cancer hospital project. Responding positively, Archana Vyas expressed her willingness to explore ways in which the Foundation could extend its support to the initiative.

The proposed Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital in Amaravati is expected to significantly enhance access to advanced oncology treatment and research facilities for patients across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states. It is being developed as a state-of-the-art cancer care institution to complement the renowned services offered by the Hyderabad-based hospital.
