A sharp rise in commercial vehicle registrations, driven largely by growing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), came up for discussion during the Cabinet meeting on Friday, with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu enquiring about the significant increase with transport minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy.

Responding to the Chief Minister’s query, the minister said registrations of new commercial vehicles increased from 33,234 to 44,212 during the April–June quarter, reflecting a growth of nearly 33 per cent over the corresponding period.

The minister attributed the surge to the state’s EV-friendly policies. He said government incentives, increasing public awareness about environmentally sustainable transport and fluctuations in diesel and petrol prices have accelerated the shift towards electric commercial vehicles.

He informed the Cabinet that Andhra Pradesh’s transport sector is witnessing positive changes as a result of the government’s development-oriented and investor-friendly policies, with the EV segment emerging as a major growth driver in commercial vehicle registrations.

He said the government would continue promoting electric mobility through supportive policies and incentives, with the objective of accelerating the transition towards sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation across the state.
