Amaravati: The state has secured 100 additional MBBS seats for the 2026- 27 academic year after the National Medical Commission (NMC) granted approval to expand undergraduate admissions in two government medical colleges, providing a major boost to medical education capacity in the state.

Announcing the development, medical and health minister Y Satya Kumar Yadav said the NMC had issued the Letter of Permission (LoP) sanctioning 75 additional MBBS seats for Government Medical College, Kadapa, and 25 additional seats for ACSR Government Medical College, Nellore. With the latest approval, the MBBS intake at Kadapa Government Medical College has increased from 175 to 250 seats, while ACSR Government Medical College, Nellore, has expanded its intake from 175 to 200 seats from the 2026–27 academic session. The minister said the increase would significantly expand opportunities for students aspiring to pursue medical education in Andhra Pradesh while strengthening the state’s healthcare education infrastructure. Director of medical education Dr Vishnuvardhan said the approvals were secured following substantial improvements in infrastructure, recruitment of faculty and compliance with the standards prescribed by the National Medical Commission. He congratulated the principals, faculty members and staff of the Kadapa and Nellore government medical colleges for achieving the milestone.
