HyderabadCity Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar stated that over 80 critical accident-prone spots have been identified across the stretch at Outer Ring Road (ORR) encircling the twin cities, and enforcement has already been strengthened at several locations.
During a high-level multi-departmental coordination meeting conducted on Friday, the Commissioner revealed that the administration is actively exploring the implementation of an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Electronic Enforcement System on the ORR.
In a meeting held at Telangana State Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC), Sajjanar said that this advanced technology will enable seamless identification of diverse traffic violations and help clamp down heavily on chronic, habitual offenders.
Expressing concern over the behavioural pattern of drivers, he pointed out that analysis shows nearly 99 per cent of the flagged vehicles are repeat offenders, emphasizing the urgent need for extensive public awareness campaigns to instil discipline.
HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad, and HMDA Urban Forestry Director Rohit Gopidi, along with top representatives from NHAI, GHMC, HGCL, IRB Infra, as well as Traffic DCPs and Additional DCPs from Hyderabad, Cyberabad, and Malkajgiri commissionerates were also present.
Addressing vehicle breakdowns - the Commissioner highlighted that stationary and broken-down vehicles on the ORR pose an extreme hazard and have often led to fatal accidents.
He directed the patrolling teams and infrastructure partners to ensure immediate removal of broken-down vehicles to designated safe zones without delay. He strictly warned against parking or stopping vehicles on the main carriage-way and urged commuters to immediately dial the toll-free helpline number 14449 for swift assistance if their vehicle breaks down.
Sarfaraz assured that HMDA will continue to provide all necessary infrastructural upgrades, install appropriate warning signage, and systematically eliminate identified black spots in close coordination with all stakeholder departments to ensure a safer transit experience.
