TheCyberabad Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has registered a cheating case against Telugu film director G Ashok Babu over allegations that he collected Rs 3.5 crore from a family after promising to launch their son as a hero in the Telugu film industry.

According to the complaint filed by Hanumantha Rao, the director allegedly received the amount in multiple instalments from him and his family after assuring them that their son would be introduced as the lead actor in a Telugu film. The complainant alleged that the payments, totalling Rs 3.5 crore, were made at different stages based on the director’s assurances.

The family alleged that despite receiving the money, the promised film project never materialised. They further claimed that repeated requests for the return of the amount went unanswered, leaving them with no option but to approach the police.

Based on the complaint, the Cyberabad EOW registered a case under relevant sections and initiated an investigation into the allegations. Police officials have summoned the director for questioning and are examining the financial transactions between the parties, along with the circumstances under which the money was allegedly collected.

Police also verifying the documentary evidence including financial records and other material submitted by the complainant to establish the sequence of events.

Police said the investigation is in progress, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
