Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Friday conducted a large-scale ‘Walk Free – Footpath Encroachment Removal Drive’ across its three zones, clearing 488 encroachments from 22.28 km of footpaths to improve pedestrian safety and restore public walkways.

The drive was carried out simultaneously in the Serilingampally, Kukatpally and Quthbullapur zones under the directions of the Commissioner.

Zonal Commissioners, along with officials from the Town Planning, Engineering and Enforcement wings, participated in the special operation to remove encroachments obstructing pedestrian movement. In the Serilingampally zone, officials covered five road stretches spanning 9.86 km and removed 193 encroachments.

The Kukatpally zone covered three road stretches over 3.50 km, where 89 encroachments were cleared. In the Quthbullapur zone, seven road stretches measuring 8.92 km were taken up, resulting in the removal of 206 encroachments.

Overall, the corporation covered 15 road stretches and reclaimed 22.28 km of footpaths during the drive. The Commissioner said that footpaths are meant exclusively for pedestrians and reiterated the corporation's commitment to keeping public walkways free from encroachments.

The Commissioner added that similar enforcement drives would be conducted regularly to ensure safe, accessible and pedestrian-friendly public spaces across Cyberabad.
