CityCommissioner of Police Shankhabrata Bagchi and Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation Commissioner Ketan Garg carried out a collaborative field inspection and discussed the implementation of project SARTHI (Systematic Augmented Radial Traffic & Hoop Induction), an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS), aimed at making traffic management in Visakhapatnam.

During the inspection, GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg, City Police Commissioner Shankhabrata Bagchi, and senior officials from GVMC and the City Police reviewed the technical aspects of Project SARTHI at the Police Command and Control Centre in Visakhapatnam.

Representatives of Keltron, the ITMS developer, gave a detailed presentation on the project design, AI-based traffic analytics, traffic management at major junctions, vehicle movement monitoring, signal optimisation, real-time traffic monitoring and other technological features.

Later, the GVMC Commissioner, the City Police Commissioner and senior officials conducted a joint field inspection at Maddilapalem junction to assess the proposed ITMS, evaluate traffic flow and junction management, and examine the practical implementation of AI-based traffic management solutions. The primary objectives of Project SARTHI are to reduce traffic congestion at major junctions across the city, efficiently manage traffic signal timings based on real-time vehicular movement, provide priority passage for emergency service vehicles, enhance road safety and ensure faster, safer and uninterrupted transportation facilities for the public.

The GVMC Commissioner stated that GVMC and the Visakhapatnam City Police will work in close coordination to develop a state-of-the-art AI-based traffic management system tailored to the city’s requirements.

He added that Project SARTHI would play a key role in transforming Visakhapatnam into a smarter and safer city.
