Nellore:TDP Nellore Parliament General Secretary Chejerla Venkateswara Reddy said the coalition government has brought significant improvements to government welfare hostels and residential schools in order to promote quality education to the poor.

Addressing a press conference at party district office here on Thursday, Chejerla expressed gratitude to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for approving 10 per cent increase in mess charges for students studying in government welfare hostels and residential schools, though the State is facing severe financial crisis. He recalled that Andhra Pradesh became first State in the country to introduce nutritious meals, including chicken in government hostels, while implementing several welfare measures for hostel residents during Chandrababu Naidu’s tenure between 2014–2019. Criticising the previous YSRCP government for neglecting welfare hostels and residential schools which fell into disrepair, the TDP leader claimed that after assuming office in 2024, the coalition government led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu spent nearly Rs 500 crore on repairing SC, ST, BC and Minority welfare hostels across the State and constructing additional toilets to improve living conditions, in the last two years.
