Ina significant initiative aimed at promoting oil palm cultivation in the district,Kakinada District Collector M N Harendhira Prasad on Wednesday inaugurated the oil palm expansion programme by planting an oil palm sapling at Talluru village.

Addressing farmers, the collector said that oil palm cultivation plays a crucial role in meeting the country’s growing edible oil requirements and has the potential to provide farmers with sustainable and higher long-term income. The collector noted that 30 farmers from Talluru village have adopted crop diversification this year by taking up oil palm cultivation in 60 acres. He called upon more farmers to expand oil palm cultivation by availing themselves of the various incentives and assistance programmes offered by the government.

District Horticulture Officer T Veera Cyril, who participated in the programme, created awareness among farmers about government subsidies, technical support, and incentives available for intercropping in oil palm plantations.

Horticulture Department Officer A Sreevalli, Assistant Director of Agriculture G Srinivas, MPDO Satya Hari Krishna Reddy, and Tahsildar K Padmaja were present.
