Chairmanof the Dedicated Commission, Rajeev Ranjan Mishra, received representations and suggestions from members of the public, people’s representatives, political leaders and Backward Classes (BC) associations during a consultation programme held at the Collectorate in Guntur on Wednesday. The meeting was organised as part of the Commission’s ongoing study on the implementation of reservations for Backward Classes in local bodies across Andhra Pradesh.

During the interaction, the Commission sought views on the implementation of BC reservations in local bodies in the erstwhile Guntur district, as well as issues related to the social, economic and political empowerment of BC communities.

Representatives from various BC organisations, community groups and political parties submitted written representations and recommendations to the Commission. They highlighted the need for adequate and effective representation of Backward Classes in local bodies and urged the Commission to consider measures that would further empower BC communities in the democratic process. Addressing the gathering, Rajeev Ranjan Mishra assured participants that all representations, suggestions and recommendations received during the consultations would be carefully examined. He said the Commission was committed to conducting a comprehensive study and would take into account the views of all stakeholders before preparing its report for submission to the Government. Joint collector Ashutosh Srivastava and other district officials attended the programme and coordinated the proceedings.
