Superintendentof Police B Umamaheswar warned on Wednesday that negligence towards student safety would not be tolerated.

Acting on his orders, police officers carried out inspections of buses and vans belonging to private schools and colleges across the district. The drive was taken up following the reopening of schools and colleges in Andhra Pradesh. During the inspections, officers checked vehicle fitness certificates, driver licenses, emergency exit doors, fire extinguishers, window safety rods, and other related documents.

The SP warned that strict action would be taken against management using old and unfit vehicles. Only experienced drivers should be appointed for student transport, he said. Such inspections would continue regularly, he added. Awareness programs will be held soon for school managements, vehicle operators, and drivers.
