Ina major boost to rural girl child education, the Andhra Pradesh Government has officially upgraded the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule (MJP) AP BC Welfare Residential School for Girls in Nasanakota to the Intermediate level.

The decision will allow students from the backward Ramagiri mandal to pursue higher secondary education locally starting this current academic year.

The development follows persistent efforts by Raptadu MLA Paritala Sunitha, who had repeatedly pushed the state government to address the lack of local post-secondary options for rural girls.

Following her representations, the government issued GO No 6, formally sanctioning the upgrade.

Previously, local girls had access to institutional education only up to Class X, forcing many to discontinue their studies due to the absence of nearby residential colleges.

As per the government order, first-year Intermediate classes will commence immediately. The institution is offering 40 seats each in the MPC (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) and BiPC (Biology, Physics, Chemistry) streams.

The application process rolled out on Wednesday, with eligibility set for students who secured 500 marks and above in their recent Class X board examinations.

Expressing her gratitude, MLA Paritala Sunitha thanked Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Education Minister Nara Lokesh, and BC Welfare Minister Savitha for approving the project.

She noted that the school’s students have historically maintained excellent academic records and urged the teaching faculty to work towards establishing the upgraded institution as a model educational center in the district.
