PoliceCommissioner Sunil Dutt on Wednesday directed police officials to remain on high alert and take preventive measures to ensure that no loss of life or hardship is caused to the public in view of the forecast of heavy rains in the coming days.

Addressing district police officers through a video conference, the Commissioner reviewed preparedness for the monsoon season and measures to curb the sale of fake seeds to farmers.

He instructed officials to identify vulnerable areas, including low-lying localities, flood-prone regions, damaged causeways and bridges affected during previous spells of heavy rainfall. Police personnel were asked to coordinate with local authorities and interact with residents in vulnerable areas to prevent accidents and ensure timely assistance during emergencies.

Sunil Dutt emphasized the need for close coordination with municipal and other government departments to prevent waterlogging and traffic congestion on major roads. He directed officials to ensure prompt clearance of roads and uninterrupted movement of traffic during periods of heavy rainfall. The Commissioner also warned of strict action against individuals and groups involved in the sale of spurious and counterfeit seeds under the guise of reputed brands. He said the police department would work closely with agriculture authorities to ensure that farmers receive quality seeds. He urged farmers to exercise caution while purchasing seeds and avoid buying products from unauthorized dealers or unknown persons offering seeds at unusually low prices. He noted that certain middlemen and organized groups often attempt to lure farmers with attractive prices and subsequently cheat them with fake products.

Sunil Dutt said surveillance had been intensified in rural areas and that task force teams would continuously monitor markets to prevent the circulation of counterfeit seeds. Farmers were advised to immediately report any suspected sale of fake seeds to local police stations or agriculture department officials.

The Commissioner reiterated that the police department would take stringent action against those attempting to exploit farmers through fraudulent seed sales and assured all necessary support to the public during the monsoon season.
