Ina significant breakthrough in the district’s ongoing campaign against narcotics, police arrested a youth and seized 300 grams of dry ganja during a routine vehicle inspection in Mahabubabad mandal. The accused was later produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

Addressing a media conference at the Rural Police Station, Circle Inspector Anjali said the arrest was made at Vemnuru Cross Road after police personnel noticed suspicious behaviour during vehicle checks. A search of the accused led to the recovery of the contraband.

The accused was identified as Bhanoth Charan, a resident of Uttar Thanda. The seized substance was tested using a ganja detection kit recently provided to police stations in the district, and the results confirmed it to be cannabis. Police investigations revealed that Charan had previously been involved in a ganja-related case registered at Subedari in Hanumakonda. Officials further alleged that he procured the narcotic substance from areas around Bhadrachalam and transported it to Mahabubabad for personal consumption and illegal sale among local youth.

The CI said a cash reward of Rs 5,000 was presented to the informer whose tip-off helped police apprehend the accused. She appealed to the public to actively support anti-drug efforts by sharing information about the sale or consumption of ganja, assuring that the identities of informants would remain confidential. The media briefing was attended by the Sub-Inspector and other police personnel.
