Eightschools from Andhra Pradesh have won the prestigious Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR)-2025 awards, a national initiative of the Government of India that promotes safe water management, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) and environmentalsustainability in educational institutions.

Samagra Shiksha state project director (SPD) B Srinivasa Rao said only 191 schools from across the country received national recognition this year, making the state’s achievement a significant milestone.

The award-winning schools from the state are: Zilla Parishad High School, Thadikalapudi in Eluru district; Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Hiramandalam in Srikakulam district; Municipal Primary School, Steamer Road in West Godavari district; Zilla Parishad High School, Malicherla in Vizianagaram district; KGBV, Anandapuram in Visakhapatnam district; Mandal Parishad Primary School, Lingampeta in Anakapalli district; Mandal Parishad Primary School, Jalumuru in Srikakulam district; and NATCO School of Learning, Ponnur in Guntur district. Each award-winning institution will receive a composite school grant of Rs 1 lakh, a national recognition certificate for excellence in cleanliness and green initiatives, and an opportunity for their headmasters to participate in exposure visits to leading institutions across the country.

Congratulating the schools, Srinivasa Rao said the institutions had set exemplary standards in sanitation and environmental sustainability and expressed confidence that they would inspire other schools acrossIndia to adopt eco-friendly and sustainable practices in education.
