WaterResources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu inspected the twin tunnels of the Pula Subbaiah Veligonda Project at Dornala on Tuesday, along with officials, reviewed tunnel lining works, and the extraction of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM).

He announced that Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu would distribute Resettlement and Rehabilitation (R&R) compensation to displaced families from the Veligonda Project this month. He said the government had allocated Rs 905 crore in the supplementary budget for the rehabilitation of displaced persons and to fill the Nallamala Sagar Reservoir.

Nimmala said that in Tunnel-2, out of 7 kms of lining work, 5.5 kms had been completed in 20 months since the coalition government came to power, with the remaining 1.5 kms expected to be finished by the end of July.

He added that three of the seven TBM compartments that had been stuck during the previous YSRCP government’s tenure had been successfully extracted. He directed officials and agency representatives to expedite the 21 km of lining work on the feeder canal. He said works on Teegelaeru, Eastern Main Canals, and the permanent diversion road would be completed by the end of June.

Markapuram MLA Kandula Narayana Reddy, Yerragondapalem TDP in-charge Guduri Erixion Babu, Advisor to Water Resources Department M Venkateswara Rao, and other senior officials attended the programme.
