Withjust a few days left for the International Yoga Day celebrations, district authorities have stepped up preparations for the mega event scheduled to be held at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium in Vijayawada on June 21.

NTR District Collector Dr G Lakshmisha on Tuesday led a high-level inspection of the arrangements at the stadium along with Information and Public Relations Commissioner KS Viswanathan, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Commissioner HM Dhyanachandra, NTR District Police Commissionerate DCP Krishnakant Patel, and ADCP NBM Murali Krishna and other senior officials.

The event is expected to be attended by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and renowned Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, making it one of the major International Yoga Day celebrations in the State.

Reviewing the arrangements, the collector directed officials to ensure foolproof planning and seamless coordination among all departments. He said more than 5,000 yoga practitioners and students are expected to participate in the programme and stressed the need for adequate arrangements for drinking water, medical assistance, sanitation, electricity, traffic management and security.

The officials also inspected the facilities being arranged at Dr BR Ambedkar Kala Vedika, which has been kept ready as an alternative venue.

Dr Lakshmisha said officials from the Municipal Administration, Police, Revenue and AYUSH departments are working in close coordination to complete all arrangements well in advance and provide a comfortable environment for all participants.

Expressing confidence in the preparedness of the administration, the collector said every effort is being made to ensure the successful and smooth conduct of the International Yoga Day celebrations in Vijayawada.

Secondary Health Director KVN Chakradhar Babu, Government Advisers Manthena Venkata Satyanarayana Raju, and Manthena Satyanarayna Raju, representatives of Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and other district officials, inspected the arrangements at the IGMC Stadium.
