Superintendentof Police Tushar Dudi has said that the Chittoor district police are taking continuous steps to curb the use, transportation and sale of ganja and other narcotic substances.

In a statement, he said the police have been conducting special raids, vehicle checks, surveillance operations, awareness programmes and drug detection tests across the district as part of their anti-drug campaign.

Sharing details of the drive, the SP said that from January 2026 till date, police have seized 151 kg of ganja worth about Rs 28 lakh.

A total of 18 cases were registered and 36 persons were arrested. Police also seized five vehicles worth about Rs 8 lakh used in drug-related activities.

To prevent youth from falling victim to drug abuse, the district police have been conducting drug detection tests in hostels, public places and other suspicious locations.

Of the 260 persons tested, 18 were found positive. The SP said legal action is being taken against them while counselling and rehabilitation support is also being provided.

Dudi said drug abuse is a serious social problem that affects individuals, families and society. He warned that strict action would be taken against those involved in the cultivation, transportation, sale or consumption of ganja and other narcotic substances.

The police are using technical surveillance, intelligence gathering and inter-state coordination to break the drug supply network in the district.

He added that awareness programmes are being organised in schools, colleges and other places frequented by youth to educate them about the harmful effects of drugs.

Appealing for public support, the SP urged citizens to share information about ganja and drug-related activities with the police, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
