FormerIIT Bombay professor and renowned “Solar Man of India” Dr Chetan Singh Solanki has called upon citizens to move beyond being mere consumers of energy and become energy producers to address the growing challenges of climate change.

Dr Solanki visited Godavari Global University (GGU) on Tuesday as part of his nationwide “Energy Swaraj Yatra.” He addressed students at an awareness seminar on “Climate Change – Challenges and Solutions,” organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Solanki said that every activity undertaken by human beings contributes to carbon emissions and that the unlimited consumption of limited natural resources poses a serious threat to the future of humanity. “

He urged people to adopt energy conservation practices and use electricity, water and other natural resources judiciously. A major attraction at the event was the “Climate Clock,” which displayed the remaining time before global temperatures exceed the critical 1.5-degree Celsius threshold. The clock showed the countdown in years, days, hours, minutes and seconds, drawing considerable attention from participants.

Later, Dr Solanki met Godavari Global University Chancellor KVV Satyanarayana Raju (Chaitanya Raju) and Vice-Chancellor Dr U Chandrasekhar. During the meeting, he explained the objectives of the Energy Swaraj Yatra and the initiatives being undertaken across the country to promote environmental awareness. GGU Director Dr M Srinivasa Rao, Godavari Institute of Engineering and Technology (Autonomous) Principal Dr T Jaya Anand Kumar, Deans Dr MD Dhanaraju and Dr D Ravi Kishore, and Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department Dr V Subrahmanyam were present.
