TheDistrict Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), Kurnool, Dr Y Kameshwar Prasad on Tuesday announced the availability of a state-wide toll-free helpline number 1800 233 2447 to report violations under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act. Speaking to the media, he said that the initiative aims to strengthen enforcement of laws prohibiting illegal sex determination and sex-selective practices.

He emphasized that public participation is crucial for the effective implementation of the PCPNDT Act, 1994, which is designed to prevent gender-based discrimination before birth.

He reiterated that the government remains firmly committed to protecting women’s rights and eliminating gender bias in society. He stated that any form of prenatal sex determination, advertisement of such services, or promotion of sex selection is strictly illegal under the law.

Such practices not only violate legal provisions but also contribute to disturbing the natural sex ratio and reinforcing harmful social inequalities.

He further warned against illegal activities such as unauthorized ultrasound or diagnostic centers conducting sex determination tests, promotional advertisements encouraging gender selection, and any other related unlawful practices.

Citizens have been urged to immediately report such violations through the toll-free helpline. He added that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential, and all complaints will be thoroughly investigated by the concerned authorities, followed by appropriate legal action against offenders.

Calling for collective responsibility, the DMHO appealed to all sections of society—including women’s groups, youth organizations, medical professionals, elected representatives, and the general public—to support the strict implementation of the PCPNDT Act.
