BRSLP Deputy Leader T Harish Rao on Tuesday alleged that the Congress government had failed on every major promise made to farmers, students, youth and weaker sections while burdening people with increased taxes and charges.

Former Minister and BRS Deputy Floor Leader Harish Rao participated in an extended-level party workers’ meeting in Manakondur constituency, Rao said that the Congress government had replaced welfare schemes with scams and accused it of corruption in Civil Supplies, Singareni, power, land transactions and even welfare programmes in Gurukul institutions.

Referring to alleged irregularities in Gurukul institutions, Harish Rao said that tenders worth nearly Rs 1,200 crore for uniforms and shoes and Rs 800 crore for food supplies had been awarded under questionable circumstances. He remarked that even the ministers concerned appeared unaware of the details of tenders issued by their own departments.

Rao alleged that the government had effectively skipped three instalments of Rythu Bandhu assistance and claimed that farmers were owed nearly Rs 19,000 crore, including Rs 9,000 crore from one completely missed instalment, Rs 4,000 crore due to restricted payments in a subsequent season, and Rs 6,000 crore from limiting assistance to only two acres in the latest phase. He demanded the immediate release of all pending dues to farmers.

Criticising the proposed Rythu DISCOM,Harish Rao alleged that the move would undermine 24-hour free power supply to agriculture. He said farmers currently face reduced power availability and warned that the proposed model could further limit supply to only a few daylight hours dependent on solar generation.

Harish Rao questioned the government’s expenditure on new camp offices, infrastructure projects and other high-cost initiatives while claiming a lack of funds for welfare programmes. He alleged that public resources were being diverted away from farmers, students and weaker sections.
