Agricultureand Cooperation Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao on Tuesday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring transparent, timely, and farmer-friendly urea distribution, while also assuring full support to farmers facing adverse weather conditions. Speaking at the RythuNesthamprogramme, the Minister said the government’s priority is to prevent any hardship and ensure all fertilisers reach them without delays. He highlighted that the Fertiliser App, introduced to eliminate long queues and intermediaries, has significantly improved efficiency. Farmers can now book urea from home without standing in lines.

So far, 4.06 lakh farmers have booked 13.22 lakh urea bags through the app, of which 11.18 lakh bags have already been delivered. To support farmers without smartphones, the government has launched a toll-free booking service, operational from 10 AM to 5 PM daily. Staff will complete the booking on behalf of farmers who call the helpline. Telangana currently holds 90.22 lakh urea bags across retail shops, cooperative societies, Markfed, and warehouses. Nizamabad district is leading in urea purchases with 1.39 lakh bags, followed by Kamareddy, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Sangareddy, and Adilabad.

Tummala stressed that the digital system helps curb illegal transport, black-marketing, and industrial diversion. He added that despite global supply disruptions caused by international conflicts, the state is coordinating with the Centre to secure adequate quotas. On weather concerns, the Minister cautioned that El Niño may reduce rainfall this year, advising farmers to consult scientists, reduce water-intensive paddy cultivation, and shift towards oil palm alternatives. The event was attended by Seed Development Corporation Chairman Anvesh Reddy, Agriculture Secretary Surendra Mohan, Director Gopi, and other senior department officials.
