Seriousirregularities have allegedly come to light in the Transport Section of GHMC’s Charminar Zone, with allegations of illegal tenders, fraudulent fuel coupon issuance, spare parts bills, and misuse of public funds.

Questions have also been raised over the continued posting of a computer operator in the same section for nearly two decades despite a recent large-scale transfer of the same post across GHMC.

Complaints regarding the alleged irregularities have reportedly been submitted to senior GHMC authorities, seeking a thorough investigation into the functioning of the department.

According to sources, irregularities were allegedly committed in awarding labour, security, festival and seasonal tenders. The sources further alleged that illegal bills were generated for spare parts, diesel consumption, and even scrap vehicle components.

The alleged financial discrepancies reportedly involve expenditures running into several lakhs of rupees, including around Rs 40 lakh related to Bakrid arrangements recently.

GHMC Employees Union has raised concerns over fuel consumption records of GHMC vehicles. According to the union, there are 29 vehicles and 25 IBT vehicles in the GHMC Charminar zone.

Citing the vehicle bearing registration number AP11X7241, the union alleged that in 2025 fuel coupons were issued for June, July, and August last year despite questions regarding the vehicle’s operational status. The union also pointed to alleged discrepancies in diesel allocations, claiming that this vehicle was sanctioned fuel of 105 litres through multiple coupons.

GHMC Employees Union President U Gopal has alleged large-scale misconduct in the issuance of fuel coupons. In the recent illegal issuance of diesel coupons recorded in May for the same vehicle bearing registration number AP11X7241 on three occasions. He further claimed that the same vehicle had remained in police custody from May 7 to 11 following an accident, yet fuel coupons continued to be issued.

He said various such irregularities were witnessed in the transport section. Gopal said, “The Employees’ Union has submitted a representation to the GHMC Commissioner, senior officials and vigilance department seeking a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged irregularities. We demanded a detailed audit of tendering processes, fuel consumption records, and vehicle maintenance bills.”

Another allegation concerns the continued posting of a computer operator in the GHMC’s Charminar Transport Department for nearly two decades despite recent transfers of around 400 operators across GHMC. The union questioned why the official reportedly remains in the same section.
