Internationallyrenowned interventional cardiologist Dr Hanumandla Rajender Reddy, popularly known as “Happy Reddy”, has been honoured with the Healthcare Excellence Award 2026 by Zee Telugu News in recognition of his exceptional contribution to medicine, humanitarian service and rural development.

The prestigious award was presented during the grand Healthcare Excellence Awards 2026 ceremony held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. The event brought together distinguished personalities from the healthcare sector to honour medical professionals who have made remarkable contributions to society.

As Dr Rajender Reddy is currently in the United States, the award was received on his behalf by his wife and TPCC Vice-President Jhansi Rajender Reddy from Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla amid loud applause from the audience.

Dr Rajender Reddy, a native of Cherlapalem village in Mahabubabad district of Telangana, has earned global recognition as a leading interventional cardiologist in the United States. Having moved to America nearly four decades ago after completing his medical education at Osmania Medical College, he established himself as a respected specialist in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease.

Currently based in Hanford, California, Dr Rajender Reddy has been associated with reputed medical institutions including Adventist Health Hanford and Kaweah Health Medical Center. He is widely recognised for his expertise in complex cardiac procedures such as angioplasty, stent implantation and pacemaker treatments.

Apart from his achievements in medicine, Dr Rajender Reddy has also gained admiration for his extensive social service activities. Through the Hanumandla Rajender–Jhansi Reddy Foundation, he and his wife have undertaken several developmental initiatives in Telangana, particularly in their native village Cherlapalem.

The couple contributed towards rural infrastructure development by donating land for 2BHK housing, constructing a Gram Panchayat office and improving facilities in government schools. His efforts towards transforming the village into a model rural community have earned widespread appreciation.

Dr Rajender Reddy has also been actively supporting education and employment opportunities for underprivileged youth. He has provided scholarships to financially weak students and established the Hanumandla Laxmamma Skill Development Centre to offer vocational training and encourage self-employment among rural youth and women.

His humanitarian efforts have extended beyond India as well. In 2006, the Reddy family donated one million dollars towards the construction of a student health centre at University of California, Merced, a contribution that received appreciation in the United States.

Speaking after receiving the award, Jhansi Rajender Reddy said the honour was a proud moment for their family and reflected Dr Rajender Reddy’s lifelong commitment to treating medical service as humanitarian service rather than merely a profession.

She also praised Zee Telugu News for recognising individuals serving society through healthcare.

The Healthcare Excellence Award 2026 has further elevated Dr Rajender Reddy’s stature as a globally respected medical professional and philanthropist, bringing pride to Telangana and particularly the people of the erstwhile Warangal district.
