SocialWelfare Minister Dr Dola Sree Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy said the coalition government is committed to the welfare and development of differently-abled persons. He attended as the chief guest at the free three-wheeler scooter distribution programme held here.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the government is distributing 1750 three-wheelers across the state at a cost of Rs 17.50 crore under this program. In the first phase, 40 scooters are being distributed in the Markapur district. He announced several other welfare measures for persons with disabilities. The government is spending Rs 4.32 crore to repair hostels for the differently-abled. A para-sports stadium will be built in Visakhapatnam at a cost of Rs 200 crore.

A disability Commission has been set up to provide more facilities for differently-abled persons, and full-time officials will be appointed to it soon. He said that steps will be taken shortly to fill the backlog of 300 posts reserved for differently-abled persons in the state.
