Tourism, culture and cinematography minister Kandula Durgesh said the state government aims to conduct the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu in a completely pollution-free environment.

On Saturday, the minister, along with district collector Kirti Chekuri, joint collector Y Megha Swaroop, district SP D Narasimha Kishore and municipal commissioner Rahul Meena, inspected Pushkar Ghat to review arrangements ahead of Deputy Chief Minister Konidela Pawan Kalyan’s visit.

Speaking to the media, Durgesh said senior officials reviewed preparations for the Deputy Chief Minister’s visit to Rajamahendravaram on May 25. He said Pawan Kalyan is laying special focus to pollution control in the Godavari basin and measures needed for the smooth conduct of the Pushkaralu.

The Deputy Chief Minister is scheduled to arrive in Rajamahendravaram on Sunday night. On Monday morning, he will travel by boat from Pushkar Ghat to Kotilingala revu to inspect various ghats. He will also review measures to clear pollution and clean the Nalla channel.

A review meeting on Godavari Pushkaralu arrangements will later be held at the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation office under the chairmanship of the district collector.

Durgesh said that although the Godavari is a sacred river, it is facing a serious pollution problem. He said timely action and proper planning could help ensure clean and hygienic Pushkaralu for pilgrims.

The minister directed all departments to make effective use of the coming year, work in coordination and prepare a comprehensive action plan for pollution-free Pushkaralu. Senior officials from various departments participated in the inspection.
