Prakasamdistrict Superintendent of Police, V Harshavardhan Raju, announced that they had arrested two persons in connection with a theft of gold, silver, and cash worth Rs 37 lakh from a hardware shop in Chimakurthy town, and congratulated the police team for solving the case efficiently.

In the press meet held at the district police office here on Saturday, the SP explained that the complainant, Addepalli Nagesh Babu, of Kothapeta, Chimakurthy, runs the hardware shop on the town’s main road. On May 12, when he arrived at his shop at around 8 am, he found the iron latch on the inner room door pried open. On checking, he found that gold ornaments, silver articles, and cash stored in two almirahs had been stolen. He lodged a complaint at the Chimakurthy Police Station.

The SP said that the Clues Team from Ongole collected evidence from the crime scene. Police used CCTV footage and technical intelligence to identify the accused. He said that they arrested two persons in connection with the case, Mirapalli Prasad, 22, of Seetharamapuram village, Nellore district, and Kumbha Sambaiah, 40, of Pedda Palakaluru village, Guntur district, at Nandanamarella village in Kanigiri mandal, on Friday. Police recovered 273 grams of gold, about 1.845 kg of silver, and Rs 5.95 lakh cash from the accused.

The SP announced that Prasad is a habitual offender who climbs buildings and enters shops and houses through rooftops, and is involved in 13 cases across Nellore, Prakasam, and Srikakulam districts.
