“ModernAI research focuses on analysing human experience, observation skills, and strategic thinking in sports,” explained Professor Dr Akira Yamanaka from Ehime University, Japan. “Technologies, such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, and Data Analytics are being used to study player movements, game situations, and tactical decisions,” he said.

“AI-based systems are already being tested in sports like football, cricket, basketball, and tennis to assist coaches in making faster and more accurate decisions during matches,” he added.

Prof Yamanaka was addressing a seminar on ‘Global Collaboration & Academic Exchange’ at Jaya Prakash Narayan College of Engineering (JPNCE), Mahabubnagar during which he delivered a presentation on ‘Tacit Knowledge’ and explained how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being used to replicate decision-making abilities of sports coaches.

“AI would not replace human coaches but would serve as a scientific support system to enhancedecision-making abilities,” explained the professor. He added that the combination of human intelligence and Artificial Intelligence would bring significant advancements to the sports industry in the future.

Addressing the gathering, JPNCE Chairman KS Ravi Kumar described the occasion as a historic day for the institution. He announced that 569 job offer letters had been secured through campus placements this year. Students selected by Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) were specially felicitated during the event.

National Institute of Technology Raipur Director Dr NV Ramana Rao praised JPNCE for providing quality education and achieving strong placement results. Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad CSE Head Dr C Krishna Mohan emphasized that long-term collaboration with international universities would greatly benefit research and academic development.
