Ina significant move aimed at improving revenue flow and speeding up development works, the Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has been authorised to directly collect transfer of property tax (TPT) through its online portal from June 1, reducing dependence on delayed state government disbursements.

The decision comes in response to prolonged delays in the release of TPT dues by the State government, which officials say have adversely impacted developmental activities within the Cantonment Board limits due to inadequate funds.

To address the issue, SCB officials, during a recent board meeting, resolved to directly collect TPT charges from property owners.

Following the proposal, SCB Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Aravind Kumar reportedly communicated with the Telangana Registration and Stamps department seeking necessary approvals. Subsequently, the Commissioner and Inspector General of the Registration and Stamps Department issued a GO, formally granting permission to implement the new system.

Under the revised process, property owners must pay 5 per cent TPT directly through the SCB portal, while the remaining 6 percent registration charges on property transactions will continue to be paid through the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) portal. Until now, the government collected a total of 11 percent taxes and charges on property sale value, including the 5 per cent TPT component allocated to the Cantonment Board. Officials said that the new mechanism is also expected to help recover nearly Rs 73 crore in pending dues owed to the Board. Citizens must generate a fine through the SCB portal and submit the receipt during property registration.
