Policeseized a large quantity of counterfeit cotton seeds during vehicle inspections conducted within the limits of the Sirpur (U) police station limits on Friday.

While SI Vikram and his team were conducting routine vehicle inspections, they detained and interrogated two individuals who were moving about suspiciously. Approximately 68 kilograms of cotton seeds, packed in 152 packets, were recovered from their possession.

A total of 5.45 quintals of counterfeit seeds were seized, and two accused were taken into custody.

The police grew suspicious as these seed packets lacked details regarding government authorization, a QR code, a hologram, or a batch number. Upon verification by officials from the Agriculture Department, the seeds were confirmed to be counterfeit.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the police seized an additional 4.90 quintals of counterfeit seeds—packed in another 1,100 packets—from the residence of one of the accused, Naitham Jangu. In connection with this case, Mangunath and Naitham Jangu were arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Speaking on the occasion, SP Nitika Pant, issued a stern warning that strict action would be taken against anyone found selling counterfeit seeds. She also urged farmers to report the details of any individuals who come into their villages to sell seeds.
